Milestone – House blessing and Handover date:
Although there will still be landscaping to be completed when the houses are occupied, A local Iwi blessing is being arranged via the Buller Flood Recovery Welfare team. This blessing is tentatively booked for the 23rd March ’22. The 5x houses on Stafford Street are expected to be available for tenants to occupy from the week of Monday 28th March ’22.
Stafford St Update:
- Internal painting has been completed – Big thanks to Rotary volunteers!
- Many of the house doors, cupboards, draws and wardrobes that were jamming or broken have been checked and repaired by a team from the local MENZ Shed – Big thanks to MENZ Shed!
- Revamped bathrooms are 95% complete with all finishing fittings to be installed this week.
- Carpets are booked to be cleaned later this week/early next week.
- Main services are connected and working, including mains power, plumbing, water, and waste drainage. (Once occupied, it is up to the individual tenants to arrange their power retailer and gas bottle supplier.)
- All new heat-pump/air-con units are installed and commissioned, ready for use.
- Waste recycling bins have been ordered for all houses.
- New letter boxes are being installed early next week.
- The Tonkin and Taylor/Fisher & Paykel donated fridge/freezers, washing machines and clothes dryers have been delivered and installed in the houses, ready for use.
- Street entrance into the house site, onsite driveway and parking are currently being prepped to a level that will enable safe access for the proposed tenants.
- Construction of boundary fencing has commenced this week. Fencing around the houses will commence next week and is expected to be completed by the end of March.
- Timber deck, ramp and entrance step platforms have been completed providing access into houses. The foundation perimeter boarding has also been completed. Handrails are currently being installed on the deck, ramp and entrance platforms.
- Landscaping will likely need to be completed after houses are occupied.
Queen St Update
- Main services are connected and working, including mains power, plumbing, water, waste drainage and LPG gas connection. (Once occupied, it is up to the individual tenants to arrange their power retailer and gas bottle supplier.)
- New heat-pump air-con units were installed and commissioned this week, ready for use.
- Waste recycling bins have been ordered for all the houses.
- New letter boxes are being installed early next week.

- New timber post, rail and paling boundary fencing is 90% completed around the houses.
- Landscaping is underway, with ready lawn grass being laid this week and garden beds prepped ready for planting.
- The street entrance crossing into the site is currently being prepped for installation of concrete curb and channel this week.
- Onsite driveway, parking, street entrance and footpaths will be chip sealed within a weeks time, once the entrance concrete has cured, and weather permitting.
- Houses are available for the Landlords (MBIE) local managers (Ray White Real Estate) to view and inspect.
