Personal preparedness
MetService has issued a RED severe weather event warning for the West Coast region. Current forecasting and modeling suggests that this rainfall may be similar to that experienced in the Westport July 2021 flood.
Buller District Council has stood up the Buller Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and preparations are underway across the district to prepare for the potential impacts this weather may bring.
All residents must be prepared to evacuate at any time over the next few days.
If you are in a flood prone area or on low lying ground, we encourage you to self-evacuate at any time.
Take your emergency getaway bag with you, remember your medicines, food, water, radio, torch, warm clothes, blankets. Don’t forget about your pets !
Look after those people in your neighbourhood who may need extra support, help them prepare a plan, look after each other.
We acknowledge this is an extremely anxious time but if you prepare yourself and family and take immediate action when directed by authorities, we can get through this together.
